WARSAW， Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Polish President Andrzej Duda and his German counterpart Joachim Gauck visited the headquarters of the NATO Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin， northwestern Poland， on Monday.

The visit included a meeting of the two presidents， a presentation on the Corps and a tour of the command post.

"The Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin functions well and fulfills its role connected with the implementation of undertakings made during the NATO Summit in Newport and in Warsaw，" Duda said.

He underlined the intensification of the unit's actions were visible as well as raising its readiness status from Low to High Readiness Force Headquarters.

"I am sure that the policy of Germany and Poland in the defense area are very close to each other，" Gauck said during the press conference.

He added: "This multinational corpus is playing an important role in ensuring the security in the times， when both politicians and the society have fears regarding security of Europe."

Gauck also emphasized the fact that ensuring safety and security is still an important task for NATO， as both presidents declared intensification of cooperation in this field.

Following the decisions of the NATO summit in Newport (2014)， the Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin is raising its readiness status from Low to High Readiness Force Headquarters.

The main task of the unit is to respond to security challenges occurring on NATO's eastern flank， with a special focus on Poland， the Baltic states， Slovakia and Hungary.
